For every person of any age who wishes to develop and maintain a strong, healthy body and character

  • For kids - assisting them in building strong, erect bodies, learning patience and respect for others, and gaining a deep-rooted confidence in themselves
  • For the elderly - maintaining and in most cases restoring health, vitality and flexibility
  • For women - promoting poise and a graceful bearing while creating self-assurance and self-reliance
  • For men - providing a sense of true self-confidence, control and calmness while reducing stress and any tendencies toward impatience or aggression

WHY STUDY KARATE?
Not for violence but to become physically and mentally strong. Karate promotes a peaceful mind while fortifying the character's resolve. Many extraordinary changes can occur in the serious student: Stressed people become calmer; the submissive feel more assertive; lazy people become energetic; overweight people balance their proportions; the athletically deficient improve in coordination and flexibility; and the overly aggressive are directed toward patience and self-control. Properly practiced, karate can be a lifelong activity and may be practiced by anyone who enjoys reasonably good health.

Developed over the centuries, karate has proven itself to promote healthy minds and bodies. Dedicated practice of karate inevitably leads to a strengthening of the body and an increase in agility and vitality. It also induces a sense of respect -- for oneself and for others.

UNDERSTANDING THE SPIRIT OF KARATE:

No attacks are initiated in Karate. Instead there is love of peace, seeking of harmony and respect of humanity.

KARATE BEGINS AND ENDS WITH COURTESY:

Strict practice of courtesy towards your superiors, equals and beginners in the art must be followed.

PRACTICE MUST BE DONE IN UTMOST SINCERITY:

Practice of KATA, KUMITE and BUNKAI must be done with sincere belief that you are facing an actual enemy.

FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS OF YOUR SENSEI, AND SEMPAI (those higher in rank), TO THE BEST OF YOUR ABILITY:

Do not hold a critical attitude toward your instructors or your efforts will be halfhearted and your practice will suffer. If you do not understand, ask your instructor to explain.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ADVANCE TOO RAPIDLY; THERE ARE NO SHORT CUTS:

A solid foundation must be built carefully and cannot be rushed. Practice must be continued without slackening of effort.

DO NOT BECOME SELF-SATISFIED:

Only dedicated practice will bring definite results. To be humble of your skill begets more practice and thus more skill. To be boastful and conceited is to be a self-satisfied slacker with results to match.

HAVE A GOAL:

The spirit and the art must become united, as in the meditations of ZEN, to realize your true self. Skill in the art of Karate is limitless and yet you must have a goal. The goal? As in any art or skill there really is no ultimate. The goal is to realize the successful union of the Spirit and the Art of Karate.

THE AIMS OF KARATE-DO

  • To strive for perfection of character
  • To defend the paths of truth
  • To foster the spirit of effort
  • To honor and respect others
  • To guard against impetuous courage
